A few years ago I was trying to come up with an idea for a gift to make for one of our kids. In her twenties, she has a very distinct style and a very dry sense of humor
Materials:
Here is what I did. I went to the local thrift stores and looked for a small frame that was long. Measurements listed above are what I found but not necessary. Project will adjust to whatever you find.
Cut the cardboard to fit the frame and paint one side of it white. Set this aside and using the black paint, paint your frame.
While the cardboard and frame are drying, go online to a free translator site. The ones that you type in a word and a language and it will give you the translation of the word in that language.
You can type in a search for 'free translator'. There are a lot of them. Or you can use this link. http://www.free-translator.com. Have fun with it.
I used Chinese characters, but you can use any language. Now type in a saying like "Shut Up". I warned you this is for the dry sense of humor, right? Using the marker, copy the translation onto the white cardboard.
When the recipient hangs it in their house and a guest sees it, they will invariably ask "What does that say?" The recipient then responds with the correct answer ...Shut Up!
Use your own saying or one a friend frequently uses. Use whatever colors you would like for your lettering background and frame. You can make one for each of your guests and give prizes to the persons who guess the translation.
Cost:
I believe I paid .99 for the frame. I had the paint, brush, cardboard, scissors and marker. The translation was free.
