This is an idea to use up all of those scraps of yarn you have left over from all of your crochet and knitting projects. It can be an ongoing project. Here is what you do.
Ever time you finish a project and there is left over yarn, but not enough for another project. Knit or crochet it into a square or rectangle. Let the amount of yarn determine how large. The next time you finish a knit or crochet project, again knit or crochet the scraps into a square of rectangle. Continue doing this all year or even over years. Keep all of the unique squares in one spot. This is important. Over time it would be easy to misplace some if you don't.
After you get a nice selection of these squares, keep them in mind when you need a quick gift or it is a week before Christmas and you find out cousin Fred and his wife are coming.
Go to your stack of squares and rectangles and lay them out on the floor into a workable pattern.
Now using knit or crochet, connect the pieces. You now have a one of a kind quilt to give that really didn't take you any extra time but looks like you spent hours and hours.
