Turn your child into a juicy wedge of mouth watering watermelon ripe off of the vine.
For this Halloween costume you will need to purchase two sleeper pajamas one size larger than the child currently wears.
Tools & Materials:
2 sleepers (one in red and one in green)
1/4 yard of white felt
Roll of black electrical tape
Scissors
Marker
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
3 pieces of green felt
A headband
2 green pipe cleaners
Instructions:
To make the body of the watermelon
Lay the green sleeper on its side. Using a marker draw a line up the side from the middle of the foot to the under arm. Continue the line up the underarm and out to the sleeve cuff. On the top of the cuff begin the line again and continue up the shoulder to the neckline. Repeat on the other side. Connect the lines on the bottom by drawing a line that goes under the foot, up the leg, down the next leg and under the other foot to meet the line on the other side. Copy this line onto the red sleeper.
Cut the sleepers apart on the lines.
Lay the front of the red sleeper onto the back of the green sleeper. Turn both inside out and stitch the red onto the green. Turn right side out.
Cut one inch strips of the white felt and hot glue them over the seam that connects the red and the green. Follow the entire seam from one side to the next.
Cut electrical tape to resemble watermelon seeds. You will need about a hundred of them depending on how large or small the child is. Stick these randomly all over the red part of the sleeper.
For the hat:
Cut a six-inch circle out of two of the felt pieces. Glue them together and glue them to the center top of the headband.
Cut three large leaves from the remaining green felt.
Coil the pipe cleaners using your finger and wrapping the pipe cleaner around it.
Hot glue one end of the pipe cleaners to the circle.
Hot glue one leaf to the center of the circle over top of the end of the pipe cleaners.
Hot glue the other two leaves to the pipe cleaners.
