Valentines Scrapbooking Tips

Use Flowers, Candy, Hearts & Cards to Inspire a Scrapbooking Project

Feb 11, 2008 Mary Welling-Bonney

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, keep in mind your possible scrapbooking embellishments.

Valentine's Day is approaching. With it comes the traditional hearts and flowers. If you will be scrapbooking your Valentine's Day, plan ahead.

Keep in the back of your mind all the scrapbooking possibilities that come with the gifts you recieve.

  1. Cards are an obvious choice, but they always work well. You can use the card as is or cut it into pieces to be able to show the verse and cover together. You may choose just to use the graphic or something special else that's special about the card.
  2. Wrapping paper can be used as the background paper for your scrapbooking page or you can even include a small bit of paper rather than giving it so much emphasis. Consider making a small origami bird with a bit of the paper for an accent on your page.
  3. Flowers come wrapped in some beautiful frosted papers with scalloped edges already in place. These are wonderful to use in the background. Placing a piece a third of the way down the page on top of the background paper and then tilting it can add real interest before you even add your photos.
  4. Balloons can be fun and handled like wrapping paper. The mylar can be used as a background paper or used to create an embellishment if you want less in the way of shine. Don't be afraid to cut the mylar to only include the picture or lettering.
  5. Candy offers a range of options. Use any gold or silver foil wrappers to peek out from behind a photo for pizzazz. You can use the embellishment already created on the Valentine's heart-shaped box the candy came in or use the heart itself by simply cutting the edges away. You can also save the brown crimped paper candy cups to use on other pages. Cut a round photo of each of your children measuring about 13/4" across. Glue each of them to the center of a paper cup. Add paper, ribbon or pipe cleaners to make the photos look like flowers in the garden.
  6. Don't forget the kids. They have their own Valentine's Day to scrap. It is a great time to start interesting them in beginning their own scrapbooks. If they are not interested in scrapping, give them about three to four days to lose interest in their own Valentines. Many will let you use their little school Valentine cards for your own scrap booking pages.

Whatever gift you receive, think about how the gift can keep on giving by incorporating a part of it into your crafts.
