Many couples share a song that brings them back to a time when their love first blossomed.

It is the lyrics and melody that remind them years later of that time of discovery and excitement. That time when you ran to the phone because it might be him and when your heart would leap just by catching sight of her.

Music has a way of bringing us back when we get caught up in the day to day. It reminds us of when we focused only on each other and a simpler time before children and careers took priority.

For Valentine's day you can take your loved one back to that time.

Materials Needed:

  • Computer and Printer
  • Card Stock ( at least 5 sheets)
  • Printer paper
  • Two binder rings
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue Sticks
  • Pencil
  • Hole Punch
  • Optional: Any old memorabilia from your early days like theatre tickets or programs from times shared

Preparation

  1. Cut the card stock into quarters. Make at least twenty pages. Measure on one card stock piece about one inch in from the side and a half inch in from the end. Mark with pencil. On the other side of the same end repeat the process so you will have two even marks on one end. Hole punch the marks. Now use this sheet as a template. Place it over each of the other sheets and mark both of the holes. Once they are all marked, hole punch each.
  2. On the computer, type up the lyrics to your special song. If you don't already know all of the lyrics, use the internet. There are a lot of sites that will give you lyrics to just about any song you can think of.
  3. Once your lyrics are typed up, experiment a bit with the font. Use something with a bit of flare like a scripted font , handwriting or calligraphy font. Use your font pull down and see what you have available.
  4. You will also need to print a few drafts to experiment with the font size. Keep in mind that you are only going to put a phrase or sentence on each page.
  5. Print off the lyrics and cut them all apart.

Assembly

  1. Put all of the card stock onto the two binder rings using the punched holes.
  2. You can make the top page your cover. Use your own wordage or the title of the song you chose.
  3. Divide the remainder of the words for the number of pages you have. You can leave a page or two blank to add your own memories or messages.
  4. Glue the words on each page without being precise. You want them to feel a bit random across the page.
  5. Add any pictures or pieces of memorabilia that are significant.
  6. You can also collage bits or books or newspapers, baby pictures, pictures from magazines or just torn pieces of tissue paper.
  7. Make sure to sign and date the back cover.
