We all love pretty wrapped packages under the tree. Colored paper and fanciful ribbons are a part of the Christmas scene. But what if...
We do things differently. We are crafters and I for one like to push the edge. Have you wrapped your 116th gift exactly the same as the last 115 gifts? Boring! Have you ever thought of doing something a little out there? Last year we decided to take a few of the presents and give them something more in the way of gift wrap. I will give you three of the ideas from simple to intense. Write me with your own ideas, I will be glad to share them.
The first package was very simple. It was wrapped traditionally. Then written all over it was "Open me first", "pick me", "I'm right here". I made everyone smile as it seemed the package was shouting to everyone to be chosen first.
The second package was not so simple but wasn't difficult to make. I wrapped a gift in the traditional manner. Then I went to the dollar store and bought a miniature village train depot, people, trees, a train and track, a bag of fake snow and a battery operated miniature railroad sign.
I used the top of the package to create a winter scene of people arriving home on the train for the holidays. I even had the lights on the railroad crossing flashing red and green.
The third package was meant to be funny and it worked. The theme was redneck. I used a cardboard box that had held beer cans. For ribbon, I asked the night spot to save me bottle caps for several weeks. They have different logos and the colors and patterns make for some fun designs.
For the bow I collected tobacco chew cans from a friend and clustered them on their sides and hot glued them in place. This package was actually used for a competition. It won first place. Have a competition in your family. Intsead of everyone just bringing a gift, offer a prize for the most unusual, prettiest, scariest, etc.
