I love having framed photographs around my house of family. I found a neat trick to give them that something extra without having to buy an expensive frame.

Materials:

  • 3- ½- ¾" twigs, 16-18" long
  • 1- 1 ½" twig, 12" long
  • craft wire
  • twine
  • hot glue and glue gun
  • scissors
  • wire cutters

*The materials list is not all essential and exacting. The twig sizes are all approximations. If yours are a little

long or short it doesn't matter. Only

that three are about the same size and the fourth one is fatter and shorter. I use old scissors to cut wire and twine so I don't need

wire cutters. But use wire cutters if you have a good pair of scissors.

1.) Take the 1 ½" twig and cross it over one of the ½" twigs until 2"of the 1 ½" extends beyond the intersection and 3" of the ½" twig extends beyond the intersection. Wire twigs together at the intersection making sure neither are slipping and sliding but they are not too tight. They are still going to have to move some.

2.) Take another ½" twig and repeat step one on the opposite end of the 1 ½" twig. If done right it should look like an upside down goal post.

3.) Now it gets a little tricky. Take the two long ends and gently pull them together. Using the 3rd ½" twig, put it between the two long ends teepee fashion leaving about 1 ½" extending from all three twigs above the intersection. Wire into place.

4.) Pull the third ½" twig, not attached to the crossbar, slightly farther back at the bottom. You should see the easel taking shape now.

5.) Using the twine and hot glue, glue

the end of the twine to the wire at

the top. Wrap twine securing to

strengthen and hide the wire. Glue

and cut. Repeat at each intersection.

6.) Tie twine around the bottom of the

3rd ½" twig. Keeping it taut, measure it to the center of the crossbar.

Cut and glue to the back and bottom of the crossbar.

*Try different sizes and kinds of twigs. You can get very creative by not removing other stray branches from twigs or from removing all bark and varnishing.

Have a great photo you want to frame and give as a gift? Make is a bit more personal and unique with a twig easel to use for display.
