Get your art supply fix at the Crafter's Inn in Somerset West - all the materials you will ever need to create anything and everything - under one roof.

The Crafter’s Inn in the Helderberg Village Walk centre in Somerset West takes care of every crafter’s needs. From scrap booking and decoupage supplies to the widest variety of crochet and knitting yarns imaginable. Only the finest of products are sourced. Johan Piek, owner of The Crafter’s Inn, personally takes care of the stock selection.

Johan is also the owner and country wide distributor of Crisitex, an amazing product initially created specifically for painting on fabrics. Artists quickly learned however, that Crisitex can also be used on other surfaces like canvas or hardboard. Local resident artist Peter Earl uses Crisitex instead of acrylics or oils to create some of his masterpieces. His paintings can be viewed at the Crafter's Inn Studio in the Helderberg Village Walk centre, opposite the craft store.

The store had to relocate from the Fountain Square centre to the Helderberg Village Walk centre two years ago. When the initial humbler and smaller store literally started to burst at the seams with stock but especially its clientele, Johan knew that it was time to give the business a better opportunity of excelling. Today the Crafter’s Inn is the largest craft store of its kind in the Helderberg basin.

Everyone Welcome

Artists, craftsman and hobby makers alike come from far and wide to visit The Crafter’s Inn. The store caters for each and every creative individual - from the novice to the more proficient. One can easily spend hours browsing the extensive range of products in this immense store. It is easy to spend a whole lot more than you budgeted for.

The store provides for anyone interested in candle making, beading, decoupage, scrap booking, knitting, crochet work, mosaics, painting in mediums like oils, acrylics and water colours on either canvas or paper and many more. They are the first to acquire all the latest products and also to know when a new trend arises.

The products are reasonably priced and it’s easy to find more than you bargained for at sales like their annual 30% off everything sale, held earlier this year. The experienced staff members are super friendly and the atmosphere in the store is stimulating. The décor and furnishings are stylish and tasteful and one feels right at home when shopping for craft goodies.

Workshops

The Crafter’s Inn offers weekly workshops for adults, from beginner’s courses to the more advanced. The teachers are local artists with years of experience and knowledge. The classes for the month of October, range from beginner’s bookbinding, baroque art, advanced pewter courses and oil painting with Bettie Nieuwoudt. Classes generally range from around two to four hours. Snacks and beverages are served with each class. The lighting is excellent and the vibe exciting. Some of the students’ works are displayed in the store for the pleasurable viewing of customers. Booking is essential.

The workshop space is a relaxed and stress free environment where people come not only to acquire new skills but to network and meet new people. There is always something new to learn in the world of arts and crafts. New materials and mediums are created everyday to make life for an artist just a little bit easier and a lot more exciting.
