These snowballs won't melt but will add a festive touch to your Christmas tree.

Today's projects are two different ways of making snowball ornaments using fun fur yarn. You can make just one or try both for a different look. Give the kids a small tabletop tree and let them make a dozen snowball ornaments to decorate it.

Snowball Ornament Number One

This ornament is using a ping pong ball covered with fun fur yarn. For a larger snowball you can change the ping pong ball for a whiffle ball. Just make sure the ball you use doesn't add a lot of weight to your ornaments.

Materials Needed:

  • Fun fur yarn
  • Ping pong balls
  • Spray adhesive
  • Aluminum foil
  • Cookie sheet
  • Scissors
  • Large Needle

Preparation

  1. Line your cookie sheet with aluminum foil
  2. Spray all of the ping pong balls with the spray adhesive, rotating them to cover all sides

Hanger

  1. Thread a piece of yarn through the needle and double it.
  2. Knot the end of the yarn.
  3. Push the needle through from the bottom to come out the top with the knot on the underside.
  4. Cut the needle off and tie.

Assembly

  1. Wind the fun fur yarn around the ping pong ball beginning at the center top and wrapping it as you would in making a braid rug. You want every strand to be touching the adhesive.
  2. Cut excess yarn off when the entire ball is completed.

Snowball Ornament Number Two

This ornament is making snowballs that are big pompoms of fun fur yarn. The fun fur gives them a fluffier appearance than a regular pompom.

Materials Needed:

  • Fun fur yarn
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard 6" x 10"
  • Ruler

Preparation

  1. Cut two twelve inch pieces of the yarn.
  2. Tape the two yarn pieces across the long direction of the cardboard from end to end.

Assembly

  1. Use the remaining yarn to wrap around the cardboard in the 6" direction.
  2. When all of the yarn is gone pull up the two 12" yarn pieces and tie tightly.
  3. Cut the yarn opposite the knot to release all loops from coiling the yarn.
  4. Fluff the pompom
  5. The extra length of yarn from your tie is the hanger.
