The scrapbooking companies work very hard to provide you with a wide variety of products to be able to create any look your heart desires.
With so many companies challenging themselves to come up with bigger and better it is no wonder there is so much available to scrapbookers with new items and ideas coming out regularly. But don’t think for a minute that you are limited to what is for sale. As in all crafts, one of the most exciting elements is to come up with something totally unique and new yourself. There are people who make a living telling you how your scrapbooks should look and will even provide you with layouts to copy. Where is the creativity and fun in copying what someone else has already done? When we complete a book, there is pride in knowing we created something special. Your scrapbooks only need to look like your scrapbooks and there is nothing wrong with them if they don’t look like the one in the book you bought or the magazine you looked at. If fact they are better if they don’t. They are unique. That is a true sign that you really put yourself into them. If you are struggling to come up with your own unique ideas, look around the house. There are so many items that transfer into embellishments. I have included an archived article on embellishments from around the house. But taking it a step farther in looking at common items I found a very under utilized item is clear contact paper. Not only can you seal items and protect them but there are some very interesting uses when you consider scrapbooking. Many people like the scrapbook pages that have pockets and fold out sections. The problem is if you prefer to have your pages in sheet protectors, your pockets and fold outs are sealed shut. Clear contact lets you add onto the outside of the page protector to include a window, fold out or pocket. You can cover and protect the piece as well as adhere it to the page without it taking away from the design you have created. Think about that adorable photograph of the little one getting their first haircut. You can seal the lock of hair in clear contact on the outside of the page Without it covering up or altering your photo. The added bonus is the three dimension quality it adds to the project. Write and let me know the most unusual item you have ever used in scraping or card making. I will share your ideas.
