Have you ever searched for just the right wallpaper or border only to have it come close but not quite match? There is nothing to say that you cannot alter it yourself.

If you have ever tried to match up a wallpaper or wallpaper border to a particular theme and color you know how difficult it can be. There is an easy solution and you don't have to be an artist.

Materials Needed:

  • wall paint or acrylic paint of your choice
  • variety of paint brushes
  • damp cloth
  • container to hold the paint

For our example we will use a border but keep in mind you can do the same with wallpaper.

First paint your walls the color of choice. Then install the border as per manufacturers instructions.

Now comes the fun part. Our example will have a dark blue below the border and lighter blue above. The border is a woodland scene full of greens and browns. There is some sky and water but they are different blues than the wall paint.

The goals here is to have the wallpaper not clash with the walls.

Using your darker blue wall paint, add color to the dark areas of the water, sky and trees so that you are not changing the intensity of the border. The dark areas will still be dark they will just be your shade of dark.

Once that dries, go into the lighter areas of the water and sky with the lighter blue. Make sure you are only applying paint in areas with the same intensity.

You can also blend the two colors and add a third range of paint that will draw the border together with the walls even more.

Once done, you will not have to apply any kind of sealer even if you are doing this in a bathroom. You can just stand back and admire your handy work.

Just get ready for all of the compliments. People don't realize that you can paint on wallpaper and will wonder how you were able to match it so well the the walls.
