Mother's Day Frosted Window Panel

The Gift That Mom Can Enjoy Every Day

Flowers are pretty but they don't last. Here is a gift for Mom that will last all year.

Frame a text that tells your mother how much she is loved.

Materials Needed:

  • 11 X 14 Wooden picture frame
  • Two 11 inch pieces of balsa trim
  • Two 14 inch pieces of balsa trim
  • One can of spray frost
  • Glue gun with glue sticks
  • One package of two small hook and eye screws
  • One sheet of computer adhesive sticker paper or store bought stickers
  • Scissors
  • One sheet of lined paper
  • Stain and brush

Instructions:

  1. First you will need to decide on the design. You can use Mom's favorite verse or poem. If she doesn't have one you can use something as simple as "You are loved". If you use a long verse you will need to use smaller letters. If you use a short verse you will need larger letters. You want to fill the space without crowding it.
  2. If you are using the computer adhesive paper, type up what you want to say and cut out all of the letters.
  3. Take the glass out of the frame. Lay the sheet of lined paper under the glass. This is just to help you with placement. Spell out your verse on the glass without removing the adhesive backing first. It will help you format the verse. When you have it just right, remove the backing and stick the letters to the glass. You can cut out vine, leaf or flower shapes too if you like.
  4. Take the glass outside and spray the frost on the side of the glass the letters are on. Make sure it receives an even thorough coating. Set aside and allow to dry.
  5. While the glass is drying, stain the balsa pieces to match the frame. Set them aside to dry.
  6. Once the frost is dry, bring it back indoors and gently remove all of the stickers.
  7. When the stain is set, place the glass back in the frame. Make sure the verse reads on the topside. Turn the whole over and use the glue gun to adhere the trim pieces to the outside edges of the glass. This will help secure the glass into the frame.
  8. On the top of the frame measure in about an inch and a half to two inches from the corner on each side. Screw in the hook with the screw, one on each of the two sides of the top.
  9. The glass will hang in a window. Choose a smaller window like in a kitchen. Screw the eye screws into the underside of the window. Make sure the eyes are screwed in so they will line up with the screws on the frame. Slide the hooks on the frame through the eye screws. Make sure the verse can be read.

Now everytime Mom washes dishes or cooks a meal, she will be reminded all year long of how much she is loved.
