This is a quick and easy wrap for a young child that can be personalized to make it special to give as a gift.
Materials needed:
Cut the fabric into a 45” square. You can do this by laying the fabric out flat. Make sure it is all unfolded. It will look like a rectangle. Place it so that the short sides are positioned east and west to you and the long sides are positioned north and south to you. Take the top west corner and bring it down, folding at the bottom south west corner, so that the western-most edge lays on the southern-most edge. Any fabric beyond this gets cut off.
This should leave you a piece 9 inches x 45 inches. Cut a piece that is triangular in shape measuring 9” tall by 9” wide. You will have a third side that is not 9 inches. Sew trim onto this side of your triangle.
Take your square (45” x 45”) and lay it out flat. One corner will be the top, one the bottom, and two the sides when completed. Determine which corner you want to be the top. Match your triangle up to the top corner and baste into place.
Beginning at the bottom of the square, sew the trim onto the square while folding in the raw salvage edge. Continue all the way around the square.
Now you can add additional trims, embroidery, emblems or ribbons.
Think about using color as a part of the design. For example, you want to add little duck embellishments to the wrap. Use bright yellow terry cloth and orange trim. For some ideas, color needs to be the back drop instead. If you were using fire trucks as the design element, you wouldn’t use red fabric because you would lose the design. Instead you might use yellow or blue for the fabric to contrast with the truck colors.
Don’t forget you can cut the remaining fabric into squares and trim for personal washcloths. You can also use scraps to add a pocket or two to hold their favorite bathtub toys.
If you are giving this as a gift, you can include slippers and embellish the package with a bath toy.
