This is a fun basket to make. Once you have tried it you can adjust the method for any size basket you desire.

Materials needed:

Cut the fabric into 2 ¾” strips. Fold in half wrong sides together and on the sewing machine and sew the sides together leaving a 1/8” seam allowance.

Using the pencil, turn the fabric inside right and work the cording into it.

Turn the bowl upside down. This will be your mold. Beginning on top of the bowl (bottom of the basket), fold over 2” of corded fabric. Using the needle and thread, sew this piece to the remaining cording. Lay it flat on the bowl and curl around the next length of cording (similar to assembling a braid rug). Now sew this to the length you already had sewn. Continue around and down to the top lip of the bowl. Remove the bowl. End off by flattening the piece and sewing it into the previous row.

You can use it as is or add an additional piece to each side to create a handle. You can also double it, using two lengths sewn together for a stronger handle.

Use the contrasting fabric instead of grass and fill.

Add decorated easter eggs by using any of the projects below.
