We have all been there. The unexpected guest arrives or we get invited at the last minute to someone's home. We don't have time to shop. What do we do?
This week we will be making gifts that can be made ahead of time to keep in reserve or to use for yourself. We travel a lot during the holidays, like many people, going to different homes. At times we have been surprised by certain people showing up that we never expected to see. For years now I carry the intended gifts and an extra bag. The extra bag always holds gifts for emergencies.
Even knowing who is going to be there can be overwhelming. What do you do if you have 8 nieces and nephews of all different ages. Do you need to buy gifts for all of them? Your relationship will obviously play a role. You will want to possibly give a gift to the children who are in your life while it is difficult with the ones you never see and are not close to. Why not make all of them gingerbread puppets that they can play with and consume? It doesn't matter what age the child, they all find no trouble eating gingerbread.
What if you were supposed to stop on the way home and get a hostess gift? In the rush of planning and working, you forgot. Now everything is closed. Why not make a couple of bread wreaths? You can give one as a gift and have one on hand when everyone comes to your home. I have never found a hostess that wasn't thrilled to have the bread wreath to liven up the food table.
We will be making works of art and do some beading. I don't want to give it all away. Just keep watching this week and I will have something new to share with you each and every day.
