How to Make Button Shamrock
Find three large green buttons that match. Sew the buttons in a triangle onto a square of fulled wool or wool felt.
Sew green e-beads to the wool felt for the stem.
Optional: Sew a ladybug button to the middle of the shamrock (a shanked button will work best for this).
Sew the wool felt square to a pin. Pin to your coat and enjoy the luck o’ the Irish.
How to Make a Button Blossom
Select five medium to small sized buttons that match in both size and color. Select one slightly larger button with a shank.
Place some silk leaves on a square of fulled wool or wool felt.
Sew the five small buttons in a circle on top of the leaves. These are the petals of your flower.
Sew the shanked button in the middle of the smaller buttons. This is the center of your flower.
Sew the wool felt square to a pin. Pin to your jacket.
How to Make Button Fireworks
Select a large black button with four holes. Select four small red, four small blue, and two small white buttons.
Sew the button onto a piece of black felt with a very long length of thread.
Start with one hole of the black button. Push the needle through the hole but do not return it down. Instead thread 5 to 7 black seed beads onto the button. Then thread it through one of the small buttons. Thread two black seed beads onto the thread then return it through the opposite hole of the small button and thread it back down through the same beads and down through the same hole of the large black button. Repeat the procedure with a second small button for the same hole.
Continue to repeat until all eight holes have two buttons each worked onto them.
Sew the wool felt square to a pin. Pin to your jacket or purse.
How to Make a Button Black Cat
Pick a large black button with two holes and a slightly smaller shanked button.
Sew the large button near the bottom of a piece of orange fulled wool or wool felt. Sew the shanked button directly above it.
Poke your needle up through the right hand hole of the button that forms the cat’s body. String black beads on the thread for a tail. Poke the needle through the fulled wool where you want the cats tail to end and let the beads loop gracefully for the tail.
Sew two diamond beads above the head for the cat’s ears.
Sew the wool felt square to a pin. Pin to your coat.
How to Make a Button Snowman
Pick three buttons for the snowman’s body. It is important to make sure that these buttons have the right size ratio to make the snowman look good.
Sew the buttons to the wool felt or fulled wool so that they make a snowman. Make sure the button holes for the head runs horizontally and the holes on the other two buttons run vertically.
Sew seed beads into the holes so that they make the eyes and buttons for the snowman.
Use white embroidery floss to sew simple asterisk style snowflakes around the snowman.
Sew the wool felt square to a pin. Pin to your coat.
About the Sample Project
The wool used for all the pins was wool from old fulled sweaters. It makes a nice thick base for sewing and holds its shape well.
