You can create cute spring creatures from discarded yogurt cups. It's a fun, easy and green craft to keep you busy.

Only a select few recycling centers take the type of plastic that yogurt cups are made from, so most get tossed in the trash and end up in landfills. This cute spring craft uses those yogurt cups and transforms them into fun green crafts that are cute and eco-friendly. These green freinds will be fun to make over spring vacation or anytime the kids need something to keep them busy and teach them about reusing, recycling and repurposing.

The approximate amount of time to create the green friends is 1 hour or a little more when you count paint dry time. The finished sizes are about 2-3 inches wide and around 2 1/2 to 3 inches tall for the frog about 1 1/2 inch tall for the turtle. These crafts can easily be created by older kids alone, or by younger children with adult supervision.

Yogurt Cup Cratfs Materials List

  • Small yogurt cups, one flat like those of Yoplait YoPlus yogurts for the turtle, and for the frog a small cup like those from Yoplait FiberOne or Yoplait Kids yogurts.
  • Green spray paint (the type made for plastic works best)
  • Green craft foam
  • Glue gun and glue sticks or fast drying craft glue
  • Small to medium size craft eyes
  • Permanent marker (for drawing mouth and nose on frog)
  • Fine tip marker or ball point pen for tracing onto foam
  • Scissors

Yogurt Cup Cratfs Directions

  1. Clean and dry empty yogurt cups
  2. Take the yogurt cups outside or to a well ventilated area and turn upside-down on a bottle or newspaper, spray paint green. You may need two or three coats to get even coverage.
  3. While the paint is drying, trace the patterns for the head, legs, tummy (frog) and tail (turtle) onto the craft foam with a fine tip marker or ball point pen.
  4. Cut out the shapes and set aside for the frog you'll need to make a large football/frog shaped head, two legs and a circle for the belly. For the turtle you make four little legs, a tail, and a head.
  5. Once the paint is dry you can glue the shapes on, start with the head for each friend.
  6. Now glue on tummy for the frog or tail for the turtle.
  7. Now glue on the eyes.
  8. Draw a mouth and nose holes for the frog.
  9. You can use acrylic paint, stickers, or cut out craft foam to customize the frogs and turtles with spots and designs.

In no time at all you'll have turtles and frogs all over the place to make your home feel like spring has finally sprung.
