While you are outside covering patio furniture and storing the summer toys, make sure to collect your grapevines.
Grapevine wreaths offer some of the best bases for wreaths. Since grapevines naturally twist, and turn it is simply a matter of twisting the vines into themselves. You can secure the vines with craft wire. Once you have your wreath base constructed, you can use traditional or nontraditional decorating ideas. You can hot glue almost anything to a grapevine wreath. Consider using Christmas balls, dried flowers or holiday sprays. Craft stores offer a wide range of colors in holiday florals so you can decorate your wreath to match your decor. If you are traditional but tired of the same old wreath, why not wire a small stable to the center of your wreath with the Nativity characters wired down the sides? You can even hang an angel over the stable. Include all the animals and the three wise men journeying toward the stable. Another traditional idea is to attach a Santa in the center and have reindeer traveling around the wreath getting ready for flight. If you go for something more nontraditional you can add just about anything.
While most of us use wreaths on the door or wall, consider using small wreaths tied with a ribboned bow to the back of each of your dining room chairs. There is no law that says that wreaths have to be used on a door. Make a dozen small wreaths and use them as tree decorations. You can even personalize each one for family members. Decorate one for each guest at your Christmas party and give them all a wreath off of the tree as a keepsake of the party. How about replacing the tired garland you wind on the banister each year with grape vines instead for a different look? You can still add lights and any embellishments you choose. Grapevines can be used as a base for your table centerpiece the same way. Simply shape the base into the size and shape you desire. Wire it in place and embellish to match all of you holiday decor.
