Let them go at it. Cut the top four inches off of the bag and fold down inward about an inch. Have them glue that in place. Now let them design a gift bag for a particular person or gift.
You can include magazines for them to collage on the bag. An example would be, I am making a gift bag for mittens. I might cut out anything to do with cold. I might have pictures of hot cocoa, snowmen, snow, winter coats, a roaring fire, etc.
Encourage the kids to add beading, trim and ribbons. Lastly, had them make a handle. You can use twine for this or come up with some other ideas of your own.
You can make this a family activity on a foul weather day. Include grandma and grandpa too. There can be lots of hints about gifts and holiday treats served. Make it a special day that is part of your family holiday traditions.
