This is a fun basket. You will find yourself running your hands over it and wanting to pet it.
Materials needed:
Take one sheet of paper and cut it in half so you have two sheets measuring 5 ½” x 8 ½”. Cut two sheets to give you two pieces that measure 5 ½” x 11”. This leaves you with one piece uncut. Lay the paper up and down in a vertical position on your work surface. Tape the two 5 ½” x 8 ½” pieces to the top and bottom. Now tape the two long pieces to the sides, centering them prior to taping. This is your pattern. Lay it on your rug canvas and using the marker, transfer your pattern to the rug canvas. Cut along this line. Now lay it on a scrap of fabric and marker around it leaving a ½” salvage edge. Cut. This is your lining. You will have four pieces that extend out beyond the center piece. Fold these in and crease. These are the sides of your basket. Thread your ribbon into your needle. Fold sides up and stitch with the ribbon to hold them in place. Cut the fabric scraps into 7” x 1” strips. One at a time, take a strip and fold up the end to be able to pass it through the canvas and back again. Beginning on the bottom side outer edge, feed a strip through and back out again. Pull the two ends even and knot. Repeat skipping every other row until two rows from top. Cut 1 –20” x 2” strips of canvas and overlap it to basket on one side as a handle. Attach with fabric scraps as you did the body of the basket. Repeat on other side to secure handle. Continue knotting fabric strips for the remainder of the basket and up the handle. Iron the ½” salvage edge of your lining wrong sides together all the way around. Hot glue the lining in place. Add a piece of ticking as the grass (optional) and include all of your Easter eggs.
