Floral Embellishment for Your Handbag

Turn a simple bag or jacket into a unique creation by adding your floral fur embellishment.

This fur floral pin is an easy and inexpensive project to make while giving you plenty of options for expressing your fun, whimsical side.

Materials Needed:

One quarter yard of luxury fur
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Needle and Thread
One pin finding
Measuring tape
Marker

Preparation:

On the back of the fur fabric measure a two inch by twelve inch long rectangle.
Sketch out the rectangle with the marker.
Cut out the rectangle with your scissors. (When cutting fur, place the scissors under the fur on the right side of the fabric to cut as close to the backing as possible.)

Assembly:

Fold the fur strip in half the long way with the wrong sides together. Your piece will then measure one inch by twelve inches.
Beginning at one end, roll up the folded fur until you have the fur barely folded over on itself.
Using the needle and thread, stitch the salvage edges on the underside of your fur flowers to secure the flower roll in place.
Continue rolling the fur fabric slightly stopping to secure the salvage ends together at least at every full turn of the fabric.
When you have rolled up all of the rectangle, hot glue the wrong side of the flower to the pin finding.
Fluff and spread the rolls (petals) of your flower.

You can make the flowers in any color and texture of fur. Make one for each coat and one for each handbag and make them your signature look.

You can make the flowers larger by enlarging the rectangle. To make the flower wider make the rectangle longer and reinforce well with the stitching to be able to hold the added fur. To make the flower higher, make your rectangle deeper than the two inches. For example to make the 'petals' two inches deep cut your rectangle four inches wide. In doing so you most certainly will need to add to the length to allow for balance with the additional height.

Make one for each of your friends and use it as a mark of your friendship. Make one for each female member of your family and let them express your sisterhood. Kids love them too. Use a really fun and funky fur for the tweens backpack. Make two and attach them to the kids boots for an added flair.

You can even make fun fur flowers for each holiday. Use red and white fur for Valentine's day, pastels for Easter and green for St. Patrick's day. Add a little holiday embellishment to the center of each flower just for the fun of it.
