Today's project is so quick and easy to make you can make dozens and use them for co-workers gifts, for your child's class, or for your own tree.
All three ornaments, the Santa hat, mitten and Christmas stocking, are assembled exactly the same way. You know if you can make the Santa hat that you can also make the mitten and stocking that easily.
Materials Needed:
- One half yard of red fur
- One eighth yard of white fur
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
- White ribbon
If you are not comfortable working without a pattern. Draw the shape onto a piece of paper. When you get it just right, cut it out and use it for a pattern.
Santa Hat Preparation
- See figures 1. For each Santa hat you are going to cut out two triangles measuring 8" x 5". To make sure they match up correctly double the material with wrong sides facing then cut front and back at the same time.
- For each hat cut a strip of white fur measuring 10" x 1 1/2".
- For each ornament cut a piece of ribbon 12" long.
Stocking Preparation
- See figure 2. The stocking measures 6" x 3 1/2". Cut this fabric the same as you did for the hat so that you end up with two pieces.
- For each stocking cut a strip of white fur measuring 7" x 1 1/2".
- For each ornament cut a piece of ribbon 12" long.
Mitten Preparation
- See figure 3. The mitten measures 5 1/2" x 4". Cut two pieces using the same technique you did for the hat.
- For the mitten cut the strip 6" x 1 1/2".
- For each ornament cut a piece of ribbon 12" long.
Assembly for Hat, Stocking and Mittens
- On one of your two red fur shapes run a line of hot glue all the way around the wrong side of the fabric making sure not to glue the top. For example with the hat you will run a line of glue down both of the long sides of your triangle but put no glue across the short side of the triangle. Place the other red piece wrong sides together and press down.
- Glue your strip of white fur the the top rim of the red fur going in 1/4"-1/2" onto the red fur. Make sure the seam is on the side.
- Loop the ribbon in half. Glue one side to cover the white fur seam. Glue the other end over the first end.
Now fill the ornament with a candy cane or a pip berry sprig. Fill them with goodies and hang them on your tree for your kids. You can fill them with treats for the school kids or co-workers and impress your friends. You can adjust the design larger or smaller for your needs.
