The Easter Bunny is on his way, so get ready with some simple craft projects for spring.

With Easter fast approaching, now is the time to get your home and your baskets ready. These projects, which use materials you may already have, will help you get started. Hop on over to your craft room, or corner, and try one or try them all. You’ll be ready for the Easter Bunny in no time.

Wreaths for Your Front Door

Here are two ways to dress up your entryway for the springtime holiday. One has classic Easter style, the other a little playful panache. Both looks start with the same basic piece—a styrofoam wreath found at arts and crafts stores.

  1. For a more traditional wreath, start with a round form. Hot glue Easter grass—you choose the color—on to the entire piece. Next, take small wooden letters spelling E-A-S-T-E-R or holiday-themed scrapbooking embellishments and glue them to the grass. Finally, add a pretty ribbon or bow to polish off the look.
  2. For a different style, gather all those leftover plastic Easter eggs. If you can find one, a square or triangular wreath form helps the whimsical look you're after. First, wrap a brightly colored ribbon all around the form. Then, take one-half of the plastic eggs (the pointy ends looks nice) and hot glue them to the wreath. Depending on the size of your wreath, you may need one, two, or even three rows of eggs.

Make Your Own Easter Basket

You’ll want to set out these handmade baskets year after year for the Easter Bunny to fill with treats. Use these decorating ideas to reinvent an old plastic basket or to jazz up a plain-Jane wicker one.

  • Paint. Give your baskets a makeover with a fresh coat of paint. Stick with traditional pastels or go with bold colors such as bright yellow or hot pink. For a plastic basket, try Krylon-brand Fusion paint.
  • Embellish. Go through all your extra ribbons and leftover fabric to find some that fit your Easter basket color scheme. Weave ribbon through the webbing on baskets and tie one on the handle. Use a pretty piece of scrap fabric to make a basket liner. Just make sure the piece is big enough to fit down in the basket with visible material hanging over the edge. Colored grass, decorated eggs, and, of course, sweet treats will hold it in place.
  • Personalize. Make the basket all yours, or your kids', with a special monogram that acts like a name tag for the basket. Cut up Easter scrapbook pages in any shape you choose. Use rubber stamps or alphabet stickers in a contrasting color to make either a one or three-letter monogram as determined by the size of your paper. Punch a hole in the corner of the tag, thread through a piece of ribbon, and tie to the basket handle.
