Inexpensive glass candle holders can take on a variety of looks for weddings, bridal or baby showers, birthday parties, or holiday parties. Pair two or three as a gift.

Add simple to elaborate adornments to glass candle holders and hand out as party favors for a special gathering. Some of these projects take just a few seconds to complete the decorations on a votive holder.

Decorate a Votive Holder with Stickers

Look for stickers appropriate to the holiday or event and apply to the glass. Create a repeating pattern along the opening of the candle holder or design a motif with overlapping stickers. A few stickers allow the light of the candle to shine through. Numerous stickers block the light and will cast dancing shadows when the candle is lit.

Decorate a Votive Holder with Glitter

Paint a thin layer of white glue over the entire votive holder and then roll the object in the glitter color of your choice. If the glue is thick, try thinning it with a little water.

Decorate a Votive Holder with Rhinestones

Use white glue or hot glue to attach rhinestones along the opening of the candle holder or in a repeating pattern. Add a little glue to the rhinestone and attach it to the glass as opposed to putting the glue on the glass to avoid smears.

Decorate a Votive Holder with Tape

Cut small pieces of cellophane tape and overlap over the entire candle holder. For another look, use a cotton swab to wipe food coloring over the tape and then wipe away the excess. The flat edge of the tape will repel the color but the edges of the tape will hold the color.

Decorate a Votive Holder with Feathers

Use white glue to attach the feathers to the votive holder. Place the top of the feather below the opening of the candle holder to avoid a fire risk. Trim away the bottom of the feather so the holder sits flat on the table.

Decorate a Votive Holder with Photographs

Print copies of appropriate images from online or a photo album onto regular photocopy paper. Trim the images with sharp scissors. Spread white glue onto the back of the image with an inexpensive paint brush. Apply the image to the glass. Repeat with other images if desired.

Decorate a Votive Holder with Yarn

Paint a layer of white glue over the top half of the votive holder. Attach the yarn to the glass by turning the holder and allowing the yarn to winding around the holder. Cover the entire votive holder or part. Use scraps of novelty yarn or a smooth acrylic multicolored yarn that changes color every couple of inches to hide any imperfections in gluing it in place. If the yarn is fluffy, set it a half inch or so down from the opening to avoid the risk of fire.

Decorate a Votive Holder with Tissue Paper

Select a color theme for the holder, such as yellow-orange-red or shades of pink. Cover the entire holder with a light color of tissue paper. Apply a thin layer of glue to the glass and roll the glass over paper cut to size. Next, trim a medium shade of the colored tissue paper so that it covers half of the votive holder (overlapping the light shade). Finally, apply a dark color of tissue paper so it covers the bottom half of the votive holder. Cut the paper of the medium and dark colors so the edge is neat or tear the paper for a slightly ragged edge.

Decorating votive holders with inexpensive craft supplies such as glitter, stickers, tissue paper, or yarn creates personalized party favors to hand out at different events. Group two or three and give as small holiday presents or thank you gifts.
