Do you enjoy doing crossword puzzles or Sudoku?

Are you hooked on Sudoko and word puzzles? This is a project for making a coffee table for the puzzle lover.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Begin by assembling the table. Glue and hammer the 1"x3" boards around the edges of the plywood base. The two shorter boards go on the shorter ends and the two longer boards go along the longer sides. Center the short boards so they are flush with the plywood. The longer sides should overlap the ends. Attach the prefab legs or make your own to match your existing furniture.
  2. Paint or stain the wood to co-ordinate with your room's decor.
  3. While the paint or stain are drying you will need to prep the plexiglas. The hinges will need to be attached to one of the long sides. One will be centered in the middle and the other two will be centered between the middle hinge and the outer edge, one on each side. You will need to carefully predrill holes into the plexiglas for the hinges and attach. On the opposite long side, drill two holes to attach your cupboard handle. Hinges and handle will be on the same surface of the plexiglass.
  4. Once your paint or stain is dry, attach the other end of the hinges to one of the 1"x3"x3' 2" boards already attached to the plywood. You should now be able to use the handle to lift one side of the plexiglas as it is hinged onto the table.
  5. Place all of your favorite puzzles under the plexiglas and close. Use your dry erase marker to work your puzzles. When you are ready to switch out the puzzles, simply wipe off the puzzle solutions with a paper towel and refill the area under the plexy with new puzzles.

You can make one for your children and put coloring or educational pages under the plexi and keep a supply of colorful dry-erase markers handy. If little children happen to write on a rug or wall, it will wipe right off. You can even add a hook on the side of the table for a basket to hold all of the markers.

This can be a great addition to any family room.
