Have you seen the trees decorated with tassels instead of ornaments? They really are stunning. The problem is they are expensive. Lets make our own.

To buy really good tassels you can expect it to be very costly in quantity. As always, we would rather make our own. I have two different options for you.

For the first you will need about 4 yards of cording per tassel. Cut a piece of cardboard 8" long. Wrap the cording around the cardboard until it is about two inches thick. Slide off of the cardboard and using the remaining cording, wrap the top of the tassel to bind it. Cut a piece approx. 12" long and slide it through the top for a hanger. Tie off. Now cut the ends and fray.

If you prefer a more precise method you need to visit Pattiewack.com. They have developed a tassel maker that will give you consistency in the results. The tassel maker is really different in that it allows you to choose from a 2", 3", 4", 5", 6" or 7". That does not mean you need to buy one for each different size tassel. It means you get the ability to make any size tassel with one purchase. They are very customer friendly and have even provided a 4 step set of directions with photos to walk you through making your own tassels. The great thing about this tool is that long after the holidays have ended you can make tassels in all different sizes for pillows or curtains or whatever your heart desires. Think about giving throw pillows as gifts this Christmas that are adorned with custom tassels. A beautiful gift for a cost saving price.
