Teaching the real meaning of Christmas can be found in showing a child how to give of themselves rather than purchase a gift with mom or dad's money.
When a child has to sit down and devote their time and energy as well as their creativity to developing a gift for another sibling they can begin to understand what a real gift is. Get the whole family involved and bring Christmas back to a simpler time. Making a Color BookThis project is for a child with some computer skills. They will need to have a computer, printer, printer paper, and a stapler. Have the kid sit down and write out a story about the child the color book is intended for. Using a Word document, have them organize the words of the story onto the pages of the book. They will need to decide how long or short the book is going to be. For each page the words on that page will determine what kind of picture needs to accompany the words. They can go online and search for images to go with the story. The images can be cut and pasted into the Word document holding their story. Encourage them to use line drawings rather than colored so that the line drawings can be colored by the gift recipient. When it is complete it is printed off of the computer. The child can either hand make the cover or use an additional page on the computer for the cover. Staple along the left hand side. Baby BookWhen making a baby book you will need permanent markers in a variety of colors, a hinged ring clasp, and formica samples from the hardware store. Formica samples are found at the local home improvement stores. Look for the ones that have rounded corners so there are no sharp edges. The samples all should have a hole pre-drilled in the top from the factory. Collect about two dozen in total. On each of the formica samples, have the child draw a picture of something the baby would begin to recognize in their own world. An example would be their bottle, a dog or teddy bear. If the baby is a little older or more advanced the formica samples can be used to make the book an ABC book or a shape book. The child making the book can leave the simple drawings or embellish them with color or words. The formica samples are then strung on to the hinged ring clasp. Other related articles you might enjoy:
