Give the gift of kindness and good wishes. A simple frame with an embroidered statement can make a huge impact and be the gift that keeps on giving.
Materials Needed:
PreparationDecide on the verse you are going to embroider. Make sure to keep it simple. Below are several possibilities. Use one of these or come up with your own. You can add a simple design element if you choose to enhance the verse.
Using the pencil, write out the verse exactly as you want it to look on the muslin. Make sure to leave a two inch margin all the way around the fabric. This will leave an inch of excess fabric for mounting into the frame and a one inch border around the verse. Mount the muslin in the embroidery hoop. Use a simple running stitch and embroider the words large enough to fill most of the available space. Use one or two colors. AssemblyRemove the back of the frame and any papers that come with it. Next remove the glass. You will not be using the glass. Lay the 8" x 10" cardboard on a flat surface. Center the 8" x 10" batting over top of it. Hot glue the corners in place so it doesn't slip during mounting. Lay the muslin over the batting so that it has an overlap of one inch all the way around. Carefully flip the whole assembly upside down so that the muslin is on the table and the cardboard is closest to you. Hot glue the excess muslin onto the back of the cardboard. Make sure to pull the muslin snug as you work your way around the surface. Mount the assembly into the frame and use the original back to the frame to secure it in place. OptionsYou can use this idea for more than just holiday verses. Include a line from a favorite poem or outline the new babies hand or foot print. Use the idea to embroider the family tree. If your friend or family member has a favorite song you can use a line from the song lyrics that they especially enjoy. Whether it has a Christmas theme or any other idea, the receiver of your frame will be able to use this special gift to display on their own wall and year after year be reminded of the special sentiment you gave them.
